Linux Performance Tuning
and Administration
Overview
This three day class combines’ in-depth technical training and fundamentals with Linux concepts, to provide the student with a comprehensive ability to plan, configure and administer Linux and Linux based applications. After completing this class, the student will have the basics to maximize their operating system knowledge and administration skills. UNIX System Administrators and DBAs that are responsible for configuring, monitoring and administering a Linux based environment will benefit greatly from this course.
Course Objectives
This class will cover the Linux Operating System and how it should be configured to support various database and application environments. Students will learn proper login techniques, how to manage accounts and permissions and run various programs.
Course Agenda
- Introduction to Linux
- Manage/View software packages
- Package Management - Using yum, Red Hat Network and RPM
- System startup, shutdown and run level management
- Tune and configure the Kernel, manage devices and boot loader
- Configure and monitor the OS, system logging, error logs, and task automation
- Configure and manage storage, LVM2, manage file systems and swap space
- Security – manage users, policies and permissions
- Create modify and delete users, groups and policies
- Networking – dynamic and static settings, NFS Server and NFS file system
- Installation and configuration (set up DHCP Server, TFTPBoot and Kickstart)
- Troubleshooting Linux
- Linux best practices
Prerequisites
The student must be familiar with Linux or UNIX operating systems and operating system concepts.
Lab Work
This course includes hands-on labs where the student can become familiar Linux administration procedures and Linux commands.
